Today I am very excited to share what's brewing in my teapot:  my very first book review with a give-away !!!! Nevermind the wind that's howling and the temperature that's dropping outside! A little more than a year ago, at my 30th birthday party, my Mom gave me a book called Tea and Trouble Brewing , by Dorcas Smucker. I  had never heard of this author, but I was delighted with a new book...and especially one with a really cute teapot on the cover! I enjoyed the book very much and felt that I had a new kindred spirit out there, albeit one I have never met! After all, Dorcas loves tea and feels that it is the perfect start to her morning...

New Words for a New Year

I did something today that I haven't done in months. I crept into my blog and looked at the stats. In the past, this was something that I did several times a day, pushing the "refresh" button to see how many visitors had stopped by my site and from whence they came. In my past life, checking stats invigorated me, and seeing good stats or- glory be!- a comment, could spur me on to writing and publishing the next post. It shouldn't surprise me, then, that it had a similar effect on me today. I would have thought that after this long stretch of neglect, the lines showing the amount of visitors to my site would be rather flat. After all, if the author can forget about her blog, certainly the audience has forgotten it as well. But no, there they were, numbers that puzzled and surprised me. Numbers that fanned a low burning flame. It was time to get back to writing. The only problem is where to start. It has been 15 months since I last published...

Soup's On

I have a bit of a tradition going on in my kitchen that Monday night is soup night! I don't remember exactly how or why this started, but I am a bit enamored with soups and all the different varieties, and over the years it has proven to be a handy way to start the week, especially as I like to make a large pot and then have enough leftovers for at least one more meal (and often more!) I like to have the second go of soup on Wednesdays, when we usually have evening plans: either prayer meeting, Ladies Night for me or Men's Meeting for Wesley. I have found that by switching up the sides a bit (cheese & crackers the first night, salad the second) you can keep meals interesting even if the main dish stays the same. Over the summer this tradition seemed to be more of a drag than anything and there were times I deviated from soup just because I couldn't find one that looked good or that I had the ingredients for.
